Welcome to Demian

Antiquarian bookstore & publishing house

April 1992: René Franken opens Demian in the Antwerp ‘Wolstraat’. April 2010: Demian moves to its current location at the ‘Conscienceplein’. January 2016: Joost Decorte joins Demian.

Demian is specialized in modern literature, literary archivalia, art, and philosophy. Demian is known as a meeting point for writers and artists, and for its literary exhibitions.

Demian is also a small-scaled publishing house, bringing new work by Jeroen Brouwers, Remco Campert, Pjeroo Roobjee, Jeroen Olyslaegers, Adriaan de Roover, Ramsey Nasr, Ysbrant, and others.

Joost Decorte is in the shop on Thursdays, and Fridays. René Franken on Saturdays, and every first Sunday of the month. Outside of the Demian shop, he’s working behind the scenes, focusing on building collections, unlocking the stock, and realising new catalogues and Demian publications.

The Demian men welcome you!

Demian is a member of ILAB, the International League of Antiquarian Booksellers, CLAM – BBA, the Belgian Antiquarian Booksellers Association, and NVvA, the Dutch Association of Antiquarian Booksellers.
